Last February, I had received a call from a friend about shooting a wedding in Punta Cana.
I thought it was a golden opportunity, however, I didn’t think it would be realistic with travel costs, lugging several bags of equipment around and not having an assistant along to help out. Over what should of been several months of planning ended up being a few days of figuring out costs.
This is a huge wink-wink to couples who are thinking of doing a destination wedding. Look at your destination wedding package and weigh out the difference of putting your photographer up. You may be surprised looking at the costs and deliverables side-by-side. Lucky for me, my wife could fly out and help assist, and and it was still much cheaper than the costs of the resorts package.
The wedding took place at the Majestic Resorts in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. Go to www.majestic-resorts.com to check out the details. The resort is absolutely beautiful and it’s all-inclusive!
My wife and I had met Jamie and Chris this past year and we were ecstatic to be part of their special day. We felt like we were with friends the entire stay, and we were. We arrived on Wednesday, and had a few days to lounge at the beach and pool with everyone, and relax.
The wedding took place on the beach and the service was beautiful. It was perfect Caribbean weather. We stayed on the beach for their photo shoot following the reception and headed off to the reception hall for more photos. There were so many great places to shoot on the resort, that it was challenging to stay in one area.
The reception was a blast, and probably the only one where you would see the photographer take part in dancing. The vendors also joined in and had the guest dancing with them (and yes, these will all make it to the online gallery). It was definitely a night to remember.
Following the reception…and a few Mama Jauna’s — a special Dominican drink — I was trying to convince Jamie to trash the dress…there’s more to the joke, but it will have to remain an inside joke for Jamie and Chris. With that being said, the hurricane is supposed to hit us tonight, so I’m currently trying to talk my wife into trashing her dress. It will make for great photos!
With all of our hearts, thank you so much. We had a great time with you both. We wish you both the very best.
